Annuals
Dutch Growers Greenhouses
April 25
Technically, an annual is a plant that completes it's life cycle in one growing season... Practically, annuals are the plants that add pizzazz, color, and excitement to your landscape.
You'll have the best success with annuals if you plant in rich well drained soil. Add organic matter like compost or peat moss. If your soil is exceptionally heavy, also add sharp sand. Check out the Dutch Growers Grow Guide on Flower Bed Preparation for more detail.
The next key to success is to fertilize. Many of the newly developed annuals bloom hard and bloom long. They need nutrition. I apply a slow release fertilizer in the spring and supplement weekly with a water soluble fertilizer. More details are in the Dutch Growers Grow Guide on Fertilizing Annuals.
